The Church at Granbury

Pastor C.C. Risenhoover and Worship Leader Tamatha Hurst are pleased to welcome Becky Wright, Christian recording artist and conference speaker, to join us at The Church at Granbury on Sunday morning, June 23rd. All those in the DFW/Granbury area are invited to join us. Service (concert, worship, testimony) begins at 10:45 a.m. and Bible study 9:45. No admission will be charged, but a free will offering will be received.

Wright is recognized for her music and extensive work concerning orphans, adoption, foster kids, and crisis pregnancy ministries. Music from her recent album, "The Heart of Adoption", and songs "Always Be Mom and Dad" and "Call Me Loved" play on several hundred radio stations worldwide and on television commercials promoting adoption from foster care to help find "forever families" for children hoping to be adopted.

Becky is in Granbury for the 13th Annual King Country Agape Fest will be held June 22nd-June 26th in historic Granbury, Texas. Most events will be held in the downtown Granbury Pavilion with Talent Contest, Songwriting Contest (public may enter), daily workshops for artists, praise & worship services, artist meet-n-greets, and more. SHAPE Academy, Hood County’s premiere nonprofit Christian home school co-op, has new digs at 4900 Sonterra Court, one mile east on Smokey Hill Court Road, which intersects with the traffic light at the entrance to de Cordova Bend Estates on Fall Creek Highway. The school, which meets Tuesday-Thursday during its 15-week fall and 16-week spring semesters, is now housed in the facility where The Church at Granbury meets. 

SHAPE is not a traditional private school, but one that encourages and stresses excellence in education through parental/student effort at home. There is campus instruction three days a week but study at home under the tutelage of parents is critical to the overall educational process.  Fine arts, enrichment classes and tutorial services are available to the entire home school community as elective or private classes.  Elective group classes meet at SHAPE on FAB Fridays.

Our daily 9 a.m. (8 a.m. on Thursday) prayer meetings continue, which is a good way to start the day.  Bring your prayer needs and those who meet daily, whether one, a dozen or more, will pray for them or those need provided us on our prayer request cards.

 If you can't attend or are need of immediate prayer please call our pastor. When the office is closed, please call our prayer line, 817-326-5501, prompt 2, to leave your name and prayer request. Our prayer chain will be activated on your behalf as well as the request being part of our daily prayer meetings.

Oliver and Ellen McDonald will be taking a short term mission trip to India in October. If you are interesting in supporting this mission or in joining them on that trip, please contact them. It will be a life changing experience!

Tamatha Hurst is in charge of planning mission trips for youth and adults.  This summer Tamatha along with some of our members – adults and children – completed a mission trip to witness to refugees now in Texas.  It was wonderful and began a long-term relationship with this group. The Church at Granbury has opened to the public its Holy Ground Book and Gift Shop. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday or anytime by appointment by calling 817-326-5501.

“All profits from the store go to our various church ministries…and for benevolence,” church administrator, Linda Watkins, said.  “We have a large range of cards and gifts, and carry artwork, candles and jewelry crafted by Christian artisans from throughout this area at great prices.  Our goal is to provide unique items that are difficult, if not impossible, to find in other area stores. There are great gifts and books for every member of your family at special prices while benefitting ministry projects. ”

Watkins said the shop has a small supply of Bibles and Christian books now, but expects a dramatic increase in both Bibles and titles in 2013.

“Many people in the community don’t want to shop online nor have the time or inclination to drive to Fort Worth to purchase a Bible or Christian book,” she said, “so we wanted to make Christian items available locally.”

Watkins said the church would welcome book clubs and writer groups that would like to meet in the congregation’s facility. Children’s story time, author book signings and other events are planned for the future. “We have a beautiful setting up on the hill, comfortable reading areas overlooking the lake and free coffee to make your visit a peaceful experience.”

Marvin and Jamye Porter will again lead GriefShare meetings at the church’s gathering place at 4900 Sonterra Court.  This ministry focuses on how to cope with the loss of a loved one. Sessions will begin on April 23, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.  The number of sessions will depend on the needs of the participants. The Never Alone support network, led by Linda Yarbrough, will meet for supper at the church the first Wednesday of every month. The group is intended to be a network of men and women that will check up on each other, watch out for each other, lift each other up and share inspiration and common interests.  By digging deep into the Word of God, all involved in the group will come to the realization that they are never alone, and that they are able to build a full, rich life with a “family of friends” to help navigate the path of singleness.

Gloria Stringer is hosting parents' meetings for people with Dyslexia on Mondays at the church.  This is open to anyone who has a child with Dyslexia. Please let anyone you know who may be interested know about this important service for Hood County.
